Squadron 10 Overview

Our mission is to strengthen the 4 Pillars of the American Legion.  These are: Caring for veterans and their families, preserving American tradition and values, improving the quality of life of our nation’s children and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship. Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires.

Towards these goals, we often hold social events that raise money and foster camaraderie with legionnaires and the communities in which we serve.

This year we have held 2 Pig Pickings, 2 Oyster roasts, Chili Cook off, St. Patrick’s Day, Spaghetti Night with the Legionnaires, Halloween party and the Post 10 Legionnaire sponsorship of Military Appreciation Night at Legion Stadium along with the Wilmington Hammerheads. Each of these events raises funds to support our 4 Pillars and we have a grand time in the process.

Also during the past few months we have held a series of events for the Fisher House at Camp Lejeune.  These events raised over $1,600 and concluded with a tour of this facility led by Josephine Callahan the General Manger.  We earmark our activities towards charities that support our 4 Pillars. Any Son can offer up their favorite charity for consideration. You can have a huge difference in what we do and what impact we have in our community.  You will receive great satisfaction in the process and in the results we collectively achieve.

During 2014 we have taken steps to reinvigorate our squadron. Membership has increased from 56 in 2013 to 92 in 2014.  Our main programs have supported charities and non profits such as our Post 10, The Fisher House at Camp Lejeune, the Alex Newsome Foundation and the Carousal Center.
